Physical Education is….
key in developing both physical, social and emotional skills and forms a key strand in our Personal Development Curriculum, which enables our children to achieve across the wider curriculum.
Focusing on Wellbeing,
Children receive a broad and balanced curriculum through explicit teaching of physical, social and emotional skills, alongside gaining a knowledge and understanding of the impact of physical activity. In KS1 the curriculum focuses on developing fundamental movement skills and physical literacy. In KS2 each term is split into core physical skills which are delivered through a variety of sports. This includes both traditional school sports and adventurous sports and experiences linked to our unique location such as surfing, bowling and mountain biking.
Building Active Lifestyles,
Children receive a minimum of 2 hours high quality PE. We have developed a lesson structure which ensures children remain physically active throughout the lesson. We seek to supplement this with regular physical activity in lessons and our Sports for All programme on a Friday afternoon. Our curriculum has been planned to develop a positive attitude towards physical activity and ensure a healthy, active lifestyle is embedded.
Enhanced by our Sports for All programme, we have strong links to community clubs. This culminates with our annual Community Sports Awards where children are awarded for demonstrating the values from our Toolkit for Learning, Love and Laughter in the community.
Cornwall provides children with the opportunity to experience many unique water based activities. Therefore, it is of utmost importance that children are skilled in swimming. Our swimming programme begins in our pre-school and we provide top up swimming to ensure all children are swimmers.
