Due to our geographical location at St Breock we have access to many beautiful beaches and in turn water based activities. We feel it is an imperative life skill that all our students learn to swim. In order to maximise the potential involvement in local sports, we have sought to exceed the government's standard of 25m by the end of Y6 and set our own standard of 100m.
All our students swim for one term from FS2 to Y6 for approximately 12 sessions, these sessions last for 45 minutes for our less able and 45 minutes for our more able who work on stamina, technique and swim lengths.
Our swimming has inspired change and enabled the pupils to continue to achieve their personal best and create their own new personal bests.
As of July 2022;
- 113 students across KS2
- 6% can't swim
- 75% of all KS2 children swimming to governments standard (25m)
- 50% of all KS2 swimming to the schools standard (100m) 44% of all KS2 children swimming above the school standard (150m +)
Our swimming blueprint has attracted the attention of other local and national schools and we have been sought out to advise them in developing their practice. As a result, the swimming ability of their pupils has too improved.
In turn, our success at competitions has improved and we regularly make the National English Schools Finals and Cornwall School Games final in swimming. Our non-club swimmers are also regularly excelling at local swimming festivals.
We are very proud of the way swimming has thrived in our school and that it is perceived as outstanding by fellow schools.
