At St Breock Primary School we endeavour to inspire a thirst for knowledge and curiosity within all our students, creating individual thinkers of the future.
From the very beginning children are taught to think and behave like historians. We encourage discussions, questioning and investigation of a range of primary and secondary sources so that they are able to actively make their own deductions about the past.
Beautifully intertwined with our PSHE, British Values and Geography curriculums, to name but a few, our history curriculum promotes mutual respect, tolerance and individual liberty on a regular basis. Through class trips to historical settings or themed days children are able to develop a deeper understanding of what life was like in the past, how the world has changed and what we can learn from the past in order to make the world a better place.
Within KS1 children begin to enhance their investigative and questioning skills whilst learning about significant individuals and events both within and beyond living memory.
In KS2 they are taught history within a chronological order. They start their studies investigating the Stone Age and conclude their findings with The Holocaust.
Upon leaving St Breock Primary School, children should have a good chronological awareness and knowledge of modern history. They should be able to establish clear links and comparisons between key periods in history ready for further study at Secondary school.
